In this course, you will learn how to make four different dips that each originated in different parts of the world. You will learn how to prepare authentic hummus, guacamole, avocado-tuna dip, and eggplant dip. Materials fee $15.

NewBo Con is a new Cedar Rapids Comic Con. But wait… there’s more! There will be something for fans of RPGs, board games, trading card games, vintage toys, and more. For years, Cedar Rapids comic collectors and gamers have wished for a well-organized yet casual convention, and it’s high time they got one.

NewBo Con will take place on February 7, 2015 at NewBo City Market.

At 1:00pm, New Bo Books will also be hosting sci-fi author Christian Schoon for a reading and book signing for his newest novel, “Under Nameless Stars.” The reading will take place at New Bo Books.

Chili Cook-Off!

Chili lovers unite for our first ever professional and amateur chili cook-off!

If you have a dynamite chili recipe, this event is for you! We encourage both professional and amateur cooks to participate in this challenge. Prizes will be awarded on each level for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, as well as, people’s choice award and best overall theme and decorations. Judges will be present to help determine the best pot of chili!

Professional contestants need to provide: 2 1/2 gallons of chili, your own roasters or crock pots, serving utensils, banners, signs, promotional information, and decorations for your table/booth.

Amateur contestants need to provide: 1 gallon of chili, your own roasters or crock pots, serving utensils, banners, signs, and decorations for your table/booth.

The Market will provide one 8 foot table and 2 chairs, electricity, two cooks passes for your team, ballots, ballot boxes for each contestant, and music!!

Don’t have a dynamite recipe? No problem! Sampling tickets are available to the public for $15.00. This will allow you unlimited sampling, a collectable chili bowl, and one full serving of your favorite chili!
